Bachelor of Arts Degree Programs
The B.A. in English allows students to develop professional competence in literary analysis and interpretation, in linguistic theory and practice, in teaching, and in writing. The program prepares students for graduate study; for creative writing; for journalism; for professional writing and editing; for teaching in secondary schools; for further study in related fields; for careers in government and industry; for professions requiring analytical, literary, linguistic, or writing skills; and for law school.
The Bachelor of Arts degree requires a minimum of 120 semester credit hours, 43 of which are a core English department curriculum; 15 of those 43 hours consist of upper-level courses within the selected department emphasis.
The major requires a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Additionally, all students must meet any requirements for graduation put forth by Old Dominion University.
