Major in Asian Studies

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Asian Studies is administered by the Institute of Asian Studies. Students who wish to qualify for the major in Asian Studies must file an approved major program declaration with the director of the Institute of Asian Studies and complete the following requirements. Requirements The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Asian Studies requires a total of 120 credit hours. In addition to the General Education requirements, 30-35 hours at the upper level are required, including the Capstone Seminar in Asian Studies (ASIA 461W), a course in Research Methods (HIST 201, POLS 308, SOC 337, PSYC 317, or ECON 400) and Asian Experience (study abroad or an approved practicum). An additional 6-8 credit hours in language courses (Japanese, Chinese or other Asian languages) may be required. The remaining 18-24 credit hours should be taken from the following list of courses. At least one of these courses must be selected from the Humanities (i.e., history, literature, religion, philosophy, art, theatre, or music) and one from the Social Sciences (e.g., political science, economics, business management, marketing, geography, sociology, communicaiton, or women's studies). Additional courses may be approved by the program director.
